Telehealth assessments

Many of our regular, in-person services at ASSESS can also be delivered via telehealth videoconferencing technology.

An ASSESS-VIDEO telehealth consultation is just like any of our independent medical assessments, the only difference being its online delivery.

The technology connects a person requiring one of our services, such as an independent medical examination, with an appropriate medical specialist or allied health consultant, without them needing to be in the same physical location.

While we have long offered telehealth assessments, we’ve recently expanded this service to meet a significant uptick in demand from those in the community who can’t attend a face-to-face appointment.

Initial assessment

When making a booking, our team will consider the needs of your client before allocating an appropriate ASSESS-VIDEO service. These may include:

Your client’s access to technology and internet connectivity

Any requirement for interpreters (phone vs face-to-face)

Whether the injury is assessable via video or better examined in person at a later date

Options for video consultations

Once the initial assessment is complete, our team will then recommend one of the following options:

  • Unassisted video consultation: For psychiatric and most physical conditions, a video consultation will be arranged between our expert and your client from either their home, their local medical centre or our office. If necessary, we can arrange for an interpreter of their choice to join the video call from their own office.

  • Assisted video consultation: For physical conditions, our allied health consultant will conduct the physical examination component of the assessment under the supervision of our medical specialist from either your client’s home, local medical centre or our offices.

  • Combined telehealth call: the medical specialist will conduct the majority of the assessment over the phone, but with a short, 10-15 minute in-person assessment.

  • Desktop file review: a detailed evaluation of selected examinee records provided by the referrer.

Uncompromised care

All our specialists have training and experience in telehealth assessments, with each consultation tailored to meet the unique needs and environment of our customer and their client.

However, telehealth is not just about technology – it is a solution for a range of situations that continues to put the person being assessed (your client) at the centre of our care.

We make sure your client fully understands the process and is well prepared and comfortable before the video consultation takes place.
